Vin Unleaded

Okay, so I’m currently in the process of sorting out the great Kooba Archive of shows.  Like the Great Library of Alexandra, this historical record has come close to destruction many times., through fire, sacking – and the odd spilt Desperado.

But we have back-ups – and back-ups of the back-ups.  Until now it’s just been sort of sitting there.  Looking back, back to the olden days (when we used to do a show a week – a WEEK! Where did we find the time?) I can see that we did slip the odd repeat in when real-life intruded.

Anyways – when we re-built the Kooba website, we included the category Kooba Gold for exactly this purpose – so we could dip into the vaults now and again and excavate the odd gem.

The year is 2006 – the show had been running for four years and we sort of knew what we were doing.  Just to set the scene, when we recorded this one, we were a week into the month long exercise of not drinking.  I knew that we musty have done a couple of these babies dry (hell, listening back to how drunk we are in some of the early ones it’s amazing we had the balls to upload them) but we sound pretty relaxed.

So here we are, cowboy hijinks and all, here are 2006 versions of Myles, Alex and our special guest for this show – Charlie from the Fighting Cocks!

Some amazing strange echo sounds going on there – and I also say “Booce Forsyth” at one point.  Myles’ John Wayne threw me completely…

So as The Boy Malloy, as he was back then mentioned, we’d been playing the F-Cocks for 3 years or so by this time.  There was something in the new album we wanted to call Charlie out on.  Typically, he second guessed us and shot us down in the pre-amble…

The preponderance of research and clips in this show – something to do with evenings that weren’t involving the pub, perhaps?  Also apologies to the “girl who thought she was quite hip”.  She was quite hip and in hindsight good anecdote based on a sound decision!

They look a right-bobby-dazzler!

The News Corps sharks circled ever closer as Koobas popularity soared

Sad news earlier this year, when we heard of the death of Roy Skelton, best known as the voices of Zippy and George on TV kids favourite Rainbow.

Here’s us discovering, quite by accident, about some career surprises and the strange middle-eight from the Rainbow theme tune…

Ah, fun with sound effects.  This is a bit like going through some old photos.  I can picture the room (one of the many) we were in and everything!

Okay, that’s us about done for this post.  Here’s the brilliant story of how Charlie came to be associated with MJ Hibbett and the Artists Against Success label.  Then we’ll leave you with The Fighting Cocks - There’s Nothing Going On Between Marvin And Tamara.

Comments...

I sound very ill in this show. Nice to to hear it all again though.
